Black Women’s Blueprint envisions a world where women and girls of African descent are fully empowered and where gender, race and other disparities are erased.

Meeting sistas wherever they are

A MOBILE HEALING UNIT

Sistas Van is a trauma-informed, survivor-centered Mobile Healing Unit created and managed by Black Women’s Blueprint. This wheelchair-accessible van is an all-gender affirming space that centers the experiences and needs of Black women and femmes to close the gap and fill the need for support services across the spectrum of sexual and reproductive health.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our Sistas Van has been activated to serve our community in their time of greatest need helping to close the gap in support services across the spectrum of women's needs. We have been gathering and delivering donations of fresh food and groceries, maternity and infant needs, offering crisis counseling and on the spot healing. We've also been assisting with rent, temporary housing, and emerging needs.  We have mobilized our circles of doulas, midwives and birthworkers to attend to women's sexual and reproductive health bringing the following specific items: emergency contraception, condoms, pregnancy tests, Plan B, uterine and reproductive health supplies, all which are critical and unmet needs for women and survivors of violence.

KEEP THE SISTAS VAN REPLENISHED

At this time, if you would like to donate supplies, please fill in this form and our team will be in touch with you. We truly appreciate it and want to be sure we are connecting our community with the resources they need.

Your donations will help support the above current needs as well as continuous essential supplies and materials that will be used to service communities of survivors in need. With your donation we can purchase items such as, but not limited to, fortifying care kits(mirrors, male/female condoms, contraceptives, pregnancy tests, hygiene items, blood pressure readers, sanitary products,) abundant healthy meal kits; food vouchers and Metrocards.

With an abundance of generosity, we could enhance the van with furnishings, monitors, lighting, security system. We could provide First Aid Kits and health information toolkits. And we could create a mobile app with service listings and location tracking.

DELIVERING EDUCATION AND RESOURCES ON THE GROUND

Sistas Van is designed to serve survivors of sexual violence, trafficking, reproductive violence, and physical abuse, many of whom described avoiding contact with the medical system in extreme circumstances, due to multiple fears, including re-traumatization and stigma. We provide wrap-around services and connections to partner services. We foreground each survivor’s right to access services and support in their community, and to deploy their capacity for leadership.

OUR RADICAL CARE AND HEALING PHILOSOPHY

  • Provide a safe passageway that promotes sexual rights, sexual health, bodily autonomy, and reproductive dignity

  • Position ourselves within communities to meet women, girls, gender fluid and gender non-conforming people and survivors where they are are

  • Address the gaps in care and services offered in traditional institutions

  • Offer a positive, integrated approach to the multiple sexual, reproductive and mental health concerns and issues women face across identities.

  • Holistic care that is confidential, safe, accessible, and trauma informed.
